Much of the energy of Downtown Greenville is owed to the Peace Center, which offers a refreshing variety of nationally recognized arts performances all year. Completed in 1990, the Peace Center incorporates restored historic elements from Greenville’s past: a Civil War era coach factory and what was once the headquarters of Duke Mayonnaise. An outdoor amphitheatre plays host to a number of live performances throughout the fair-weather months, which, in Greenville, is most of the year. The Wyche Pavilion, now home to many outdoor events, is one of Greenville’s oldest commercial buildings. Nationally-recognized acoustician Larry Kirkegaard and theatrical design firm Jerit/Boys collaborated with Craig, Gaulden, and Davis, a local architecture firm, to develop the Peace Center’s interior.

Arts and Culture Find Their Peaceful Center Downtown.

The Peace Center for the Performing Arts was instrumental in Downtown Greenville's revitalization. City leaders appreciated how vital both recreation and inspiration are in our daily lives and wisely chose to situate the Peace Center in the heart of Downtown Greenville, where art and culture belong.

And what the Peace Center offers speaks to the heart of Downtown Greenville residents. Outstanding access to Broadway shows, and a variety of nationally recognized artists, such as Tony Bennett, John Legend, Robin Williams, Yo Yo Ma, and more.

More about the Peace Center for the Performing Arts

The Peace Center would not exist if not for the vision and collaboration of city officials, private business leaders, and the community at large. Its creation is owed largely to one of many private-public partnerships that have transformed Downtown Greenville into one of the most livable cities in the nation.

It’s hard to visit Downtown Greenville and not be touched by its beauty and artistic energy:
“Gary Beach, a Tony award winning actor who toured with Spamalot, Kenny G, Lily Tomlin and Chris Isaac all raved about the area. In fact, Gary and Lily looked for property in the area after performing here.”
- Robert Gilbert, Public Relations Manager, Peace Center
